Nikon D300's Noises can be reduced more@@ |
@Nikon D300 released in November 2007 has a feature of low noise at high ISO much better than D200. But sometimes there are subtle texture noises at low ISO especially on the parts of blue sky or on smooth skin. The High ISO Noise Reduction in the D300 is effective from ISO800. So some noises are recognized just under ISO800 for example ISO640 or ISO500.
These noises are easily reduced to cancel the sharpening on the menu of the picture control of D300.
The sharpening in the D300 enhances not only edges but also noises.
This tip is very easy and effective. And it is also applicable for other DSLR.
Please take a look at the effectiveness of it. And notice the parts of blue sky.

It is hard to recognize the noises in the pictures taken at Sharpening: 0, High ISO NR: Normal, and ISO 800 or under 800. There are only slight noises even though at ISO 1600 and 3600.
In the case of High ISO NR: OFF, and Sharpening: 0, the noises are recognized a little bit more than the pictures taken at High ISO NR set to Normal. But there are obviously smaller noises than the pictures taken at Sharpening set
to 4 at the all ISO range.
Of course the pictures taken Sharpening set to 0 are not sharp. So Unsharp-Mask is recommended to sharpen
images as a post processing..
The points to reduce D300's noiseis;
1. Set Sharpening to 0 on the Picture Control
of D300's menu.
2. Set High ISO NR to Normal or Low
3. Apply Unsharp-Mask after shoot.
Recommended parameter of Unsharp-Mask for the Photoshop
Amount,: 10-150%
Radius: 1-3pixcel
Threshold: 2-6%
4. In the case of RAW development, not apply normal sharp, but
apply Unsharp-Mask.
